Hi there, I'm Teena Hughes, and I'm about to embark on an exciting new chapter - transforming my life from bricks-and-mortar to van life in Australia! 

My Van Life Journey
I'm no stranger to life on the road! Years ago, I spent 6 magical months touring outback Australia in a VW Kombi van, back when Uluru (Ayers Rock) was still surrounded by pure wilderness. From Sydney to Adelaide, across to Uluru and up to Darwin, every mile brought new adventures and unforgettable connections.

The adventure bug bit again when I moved to Los Angeles, where another trusty VW Kombi became my partner in exploring America.

Why KoalaRue?
While planning my return to van life, I started doodling slogans that captured the spirit of freedom and adventure. These doodles evolved into the designs you see here - created for bold women who choose to write their own stories on the open road.

I've been drawing koalas since I was a small child, so that's the first word that popped into my mind when thinking about van life. I was also thinking about being on the road, and the word for "road" in French is "la rue", so I put those two thoughts together and voilà! KOALARUE.COM :-) 

Community Matters
One of the best parts of planning this journey has been connecting with the incredible van life community. From Australia to New Zealand, the UK to Europe, America to Canada - I'm constantly inspired by the generous, adventurous women and men sharing their experiences and wisdom.

What's Next?
As I downsize from house to van (an exciting challenge in itself!), I'll be adding more designs inspired by this journey. I'd love to hear where you are in your van life adventure - whether you're dreaming, planning, or already living the life!

Why Koalas?
Long before KoalaRue was born, I was known for my koala art - from decorating postcards sent from my worldwide adventures to creating hand-painted silk designs. These quirky Australian icons have been my creative companions throughout my journeys, making them the perfect mascots for this new adventure in van life fashion!
